Data tools shouldn't require a developer

Gridzu was built on a simple idea: most people who work with data files just want to clean and compare them — not write formulas, learn SQL, or wait on an engineer.

What it is

Gridzu is a desktop app that opens your spreadsheets and CSVs in a fast grid, gives you point-and-click tools to clean and reshape them, lets you compare two files in six different ways, and keeps a full version history you can roll back to — all running privately on your own computer.

It deliberately sits between two worlds. A spreadsheet like Excel is approachable but slows to a crawl on large files and has no real way to compare two datasets or undo last week's changes. Databases and scripting languages are powerful but assume you can code. Gridzu aims to give you the speed and rigor of the former with the friendliness of the latter.

Why it's fast & private

Gridzu runs a powerful data engine natively inside the app, so it stays responsive on files with millions of rows while a normal spreadsheet would freeze — all in a tiny, secure native Windows app (about a 9 MB install). Everything runs locally; your files never leave your machine unless you choose to share them.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

Your files and their contents never leave your computer — all processing happens locally. The only thing our service ever sees is the email address you sign in with. (You can still back up or share through your own GitHub account if you choose.)

What file types can I open?

CSV, TSV, and plain-text tabular files, by drag-and-drop or the Open button. You can export your cleaned data back out as CSV.

How large a file can it handle?

Very large ones. Files with millions of rows stay smooth — well beyond what a typical spreadsheet handles comfortably.

Do I need an account?

Yes — a free Gridzu account. You create it here on the site, then sign in once in the app; after that it remembers you and works offline. We only store your email to manage the account — never your data. A separate GitHub account is optional, just for team sharing.

What are the system requirements?

Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). The app is about 9 MB to install and runs fully offline.

Does it cost anything?

Gridzu is free to download and use.
